Divisive question this may be, but what I am getting at, is do we have the right to expect our bodies to work at 100%, and for the experts to pick up the pieces if it doesn't?I would always argue that there is no way that this can be expected in a modern, educated society that we live in. We all have the ability to be 100% healthy, with notable exceptions, and therefore have to work hard to ensure we are all educated in how to keep the amazing organism that you are alive and kicking. Of course that starts with the family, educators and of course the health professionals around you.

It is this latter group that we should expect to educate us to have the potential to be 100% healthy. Instead due to some curious decisions in the past, we have missed this point. After all, the title doctor (given honourably to medics and chiropractors), means educator in Latin.
To put it another way, I have borrowed a brilliant statement made by some Irish colleagues of mine:

"Traditionally the focus in healthcare has been enabling people to live in ill health.
"Chiropractic is different: Focusing upon health and and its ability to be restored, enhanced and maintained."

Just because you're alive, doesn't mean you're healthy. You don't have the right to be healthy without working at it.

Hello everybody, and welcome to the first edition of the LiveWell blog, or as I like to call it, LiveWell world, because out there, out where most folks live, that's crazy-town!

My name is Dr Adam Smith, Chiropractor, husband, father of three, world traveler, sports enthusiast, technology geek, and all-round health advocate.

So crazy-town huh? What do I mean by that?

Most people out there in crazy-town are concerned about their health, but they are looking in all the wrong places to become healthy. In fact they are exhausting all their time, money and effort in an ill-fated attempt to not get sick. That's it.

Most people consider the absence of sickness to mean they are healthy and well.

Nope, that is not how it works folks.

Downing pills (drugs) like candy to 'manage' conditions does not make you healthy. In Crazy-town parents say stuff like:

'Oh, you have a headache! Take this pill and that'll help' then they turn around tell their kids to 'Say NO to drugs!'

In Crazy-town no-one even notices when drug companies are found guilty of criminal charges and fined over £2 Billion (that's billion with a B). You see it must not have been a big deal for Glaxo-Smith-Kline to pay out the largest fine in history, after they bribed Doctors to prescribe drugs to people, including children, when the effects of the drugs were unknown. They also falsified research to show that their drugs were effective when they were in fact dangerous.

It seems no-one in Crazy-town cares.

What if you have a piece of your body that is not functioning right, despite all the drugs you are on? Cut it out and throw it in the bin. That'll help right?

Well, let's think for a moment about how your body works. What happens when you cut yourself? All things being well, you should heal right? The blood clots, the skin repairs, you may or may not have a scar, but it heals.

Your body is smart. No, really it is. So how about letting it be smart. Listen to what your body is telling you. Your body tells you when it is being poisoned, when it is hurt and when it is tired.

All you have to do is ensure that you feed yourself nutritious food and drink, get yourself checked physically (more on this in a moment) and rest as much as you need.

Right, so I'm a Chiropractor and this is a Chiropractic based website. Here then is some Chiropractic advice.

Move to normal-ville, grab a spot in Chiro-town, UK, that's what LiveWell is.

Here we think, move and eat different to those mis-guided folks in Crazy-town.

Here it is OK to read food labels and avoid foods with Aspartame and High-Fructose-Corn Syrup.

It's great to tell your kids that although they feel sick just now with a sniffle or a cold, that their body is smart and their defenses are dealing with it.

In LiveWell world drugs and surgeries are used for emergency/trauma situations only, and we are thankful that they exist.

Here, we move all the time. We dance like no-one is watching, even if they are, and we take the stairs rather than the lift or escalator.

Above all, we get checked regularly by our Chiropractor, so that a body that is hurt, can heal the way nature intended.

That's the normal thing to do.

Welcome to LiveWell World. We know you'll love it here.
